Dance Projects

The power to bring about positive change.

Classes & Workshops

Classes are a wonderful opportunity to share with my students my passion for dance and all I have learnt over three decades of working with incredibly talented dancers, instructors and choreographers both in the UK and abroad. In my classes I delight watching my students grow into confident movers and dancers, expressing a newly-found freedom of movement and developing greater strength, technique and flexibility week after week!

Current Classes & Workshops

Women's BALLET FITNESS Class (All levels)

Wednesdays 1-2pm

St Andrew’s Church, Linton Rd, Oxford OX2 6UG

ChoreoLabs

I also offer choreography workshops either as stand-alone classes or as part of a series; these ChoreoLabs are fun and creative sessions giving dancers the unique opportunity to create their own material and to collaborate with other dancers toward the creation of a dance piece. This is ideal for a dance or theatre group of any age. Enquire for further details.

Private Sessions

Private sessions are a great investment in your development as a dancer. You may wish to improve your technique, performance skills, or prepare a piece of choreography for a show, festival or competition - whatever your goal, we can tailor the session specifically to your needs! Contact me if you would like to arrange a private lesson.

Dance Projects

I believe dance has the power to bring about positive change within people and within communities. I am passionate about creating dance opportunities for those who are vulnerable and marginalized, helping people flourish where they are, ultimately becoming stronger, more confident movers and more empowered individuals.

To protect the privacy of the population groups I often work with, I do not advertise this part of my work publically. Please do get in touch if you are interested in learning more or wish to collaborate with me on these projects.

BALLET FITNESS

Amabel's adult ballet fitness class is a wonderful hour of stretching and working tired muscles in a nurturing and friendly environment. The class is challenging enough but also peaceful and life-affirming. A breath of fresh air for those who don't feel comfortable in a noisy and adrenalin-filled traditional gym setting.

Amabel’s ballet fitness class is a highlight of my week. I came to it as a complete beginner (unless you count a couple of years as a very small child, which I don’t!) and have loved learning some rudiments of ballet as well as improving my posture, strength and flexibility. A beautiful and graceful dancer herself, Amabel is a really inspiring and encouraging teacher – welcoming, creative, humorous and non-judgmental. She strikes a great balance between making sessions fun and aiding our progress. People sometimes think ballet is only accessible to the chosen few but Amabel dispels that misconception and shows that everyone can enjoy it and get a huge amount out of it.

Amabel starts her sessions with a short mindfulness exercise to get our busy minds to a peaceful state and correctly align the body to prepare for exercise, before moving onto the first ballet-based exercise. Amabel's calming and confident voice guides you through different exercises and the occasional brief dance sequence. She always pays attention to everyone in the class and keeps into account various levels of fitness. Amabel ends her class with some stretching a few moments of relaxation to unwind.

TEEN CONTEMPORARY

At 16 my daughter was a late comer to dance, Amabel welcomed her into her class where she settled quickly and developed a lasting love of dance. Amabel is a sensitive, hugely encouraging, astute and technically rigorous teacher. I'm very happy to recommend her to young budding dancers (of any age) - you will be in excellent hands.

Amabel was first brought to our clinic's attention in April 2016, when one of our clients began reconnecting with their sense of identity through ballet. The result was unmistakable: our client became 'sparkly', again, as a result of Amabel's lessons. This was no mean feat, as our client was not only elderly, but had also been suffering with depression and dementia. Emerging through Amabel's lessons, our client began to heal and gradually remember the parts of herself, and her very own 'dance life' that she had lost touch with. Over the following two years, we were able to observe continued signs of prolonged vitality and renewed health. We would highly recommend Amabel's teaching, professionalism, fortitude, and courage."

My daughter's technique and confidence have blossomed with Amabel as her teacher of both ballet and contemporary dance.

My 13 year old daughter has been learning contemporary dance with Amabel for a year and a half. Amabel is a very creative, caring and fun teacher. My daughter loves the classes and I have really noticed the change in how she moves and how strong she has become as a result of the classes.

For some time I have had huge respect for dancers and the training they put their bodies through in order to achieve greatness in strength, flexibility and movement. When I heard about Amabel’s ballet fitness class I was intrigued to experience it for myself. I have done many fitness classes, bootcamp style classes and the odd dance class. Amabel’s class was like no other! It was fast paced but not so fast that someone like me with two left elephant feet couldn’t keep up. It was fascinating to revisit my childhood and perform ballet steps one minute then be on the floor doing a side plank the next, all to a fun mix of upbeat tunes and with fairylike Amabel walking and dancing us through each step. I can’t recommend her classes highly enough.

Ballet Fitness is a good quality class with a great accompanying soundtrack. Ballet technique is weaved in to the class along side some cardio work with a contemporary edge. Variations of exercises available to suit beginners and experienced dancers like myself. I have attended many adult ballet classes previously but often found them uninspiring and lacking in the creative flair that Ama brings to her classes. Definitely recommend the class and love that she offers student discount which makes it accessible to me.

Amabel is a great teacher and makes the class very enjoyable. The dance moves encompass both cardio and muscle strengthening exercises - the moves are deceptively hard! I enjoy the ballet aspect of the class and learning about the different postures; this is the only exercises class that makes me feet elegant whilst exercising!

Amabel Luers taught dance in one of our most prestigious private schools in Oxfordshire. Amabel's warm nature and professional persona meant that the children flourished in the dance class. Amabel gave a creative and unique quality to each and every class and as a result the children's confidence amplified in the most positive way!

Amabel's passion as a dancer is contagious which, together with her understanding of each individual student's needs, makes her dance classes the highlight of my daughter's week.

I love the contemporary lessons I do with Miss Ama and there is no dance class like it! There is such a friendly atmosphere and everything from the dances to the music is so much fun!

Rosie, Student

Amabel is a wonderful teacher. Kind and encouraging, she doesn't just teach dance, she enables her pupils to develop their own creative expression and have fun working with each other.

Charlotte Schofield, Parent

I look forward to contemporary lessons with Miss Amabel every week!
It is a chance to release energy whilst improving my technical skills and the atmosphere in the room is friendly, encouraging and thoroughly enjoyable!

About Me

I grew up in Milan, Italy, where I started dancing at a young age. I studied classical ballet and modern jazz and continued pursuing my love for ballet and contemporary dance in London and Boston. I have had the pleasure to be a part of contemporary dance companies both in the UK and the US, where I enjoyed extensive training and wonderful performing opportunities. I obtained my postgraduate qualification in Dance Teaching and Learning at London's Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and I enjoy sharing my passion for dance with each and every one of my students.
